About Us

Robert Kiefaber

Bob and Laurie Kiefaber started Aesthetic Interiors partially to satisfy decoration needs in their own Victorian home and to help other homeowners working on similar projects. The two have endeavored to recreate the adornment popular in the era their home was built in and embellish slightly to their own tastes. At the same time, they appreciate the need to remain true to the original design of the house.

Their delving into the world of wallpaper also developed out of personal need. They found a wallpaper design they wanted to purchase, but decided to paint the design instead as it would be more cost-effective. Due to the nature of the design chosen, it was decided the next room would be covered in paper of their own design.

Creating designs is easily done as Bob studied art in college, has experience in the screen-printing industry and has always had a keen interest in historical objects, furniture and art. He began collecting phonographs at the age of six and has owned and restored Model Ts for years.

Laurie, while not sharing the same art background as her husband, is a writer and dabbles in stained glass. She hopes to offer some of her work in the future as part of the Aesthetic Interiors line.

Through research of numerous wallpaper books, the Cooper-Hewitt Museum and a cache of wallpaper sample books discovered by their friend Dorwin Starr, the collection you find on this Web site has been made possible. Starr acquired a number of outstanding wallpaper sample books from a small-town, family-owned drug store that was closing. They were amazingly preserved, considering their age.

Some of the more than 200 designs presented on this Web site are reproductions, while others are adaptations or designs which have been altered and blended with others for a richer palette of offerings. See if you can tell which are which.
